I've only had this faucet installed for a week, but so far I'm loving it, even though the "hands free" feature isn't working yet. Unfortunately, the wrong part to make that work was put in the box. My husband discovered this while installing the faucet and called the 1-800 number on the box and they were very helpful and ordered the correct part to be shipped to us. If you notice you're missing a red wire on the solonoid, then you got the wrong one and will have to call to have the right one sent to you. Delta called us back the next day to ask a few more questions about the part we did have -- they were researching the problem to see if it was an isolated mistake or not, so they were on top of the issue right away.
Anyway, I love the styling of the faucet and the MagnaTite docking feature. The only negative is that although Amazon's description refers to "a stainless soap dispense", the spout of the dispenser and the pull-down wand are plastic, thus the 4-star rating. The finish is very nice, but only time will tell how long it holds up.
I have had this faucet for a little over 2 weeks now, so feel I can write a reasonable review of it. The faucet looks and functions great. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the installation fiasco combined with the lukewarm customer service in the wake of that. I would mostly like to share the little hiccups that I didn't see coming in the hopes that it helps someone else.
Sprayer hose installation: Be sure to pull the LED wire out of the spout before installing the sprayer hose. It _will_ get caught while feeding though. After a few attempts with progressively more pressure, I re-read the instructions and noticed that they recommend twisting the hose while inserting. After a few more attempts, I finally got it fed through. The instructions act like it's not a big deal, but Delta should re-engineer the spout to fix this problem.
Solenoid wire attachments: When it came time to hook up the valve wire to the solenoid, there were no more wires coming from the solenoid. I double checked my directions, the online manuals and videos. After watching the videos on Delta's website it became obvious that there have been several revisions of this faucet. I even went so far as to disassemble the solenoid assembly in search of the missing wire. After spending far too long looking for the necessary wire, I called Delta's customer service number. While friendly, the service agent had a hard time understanding the phrase "there is no wire coming out of the solenoid to connect to the valve wire." She instead wanted to read the same instructions I had in front of me verbatim. After some time on the phone, she concluded that I needed a new solenoid assembly -- which I was pretty sure of by this time as well. The only real down side of this is that I can't touch the valve handle to turn the water on and off, only the spout. I can deal with it in the mean time, but it's still frustrating.
Customer service: I received an e-mail confirming that new parts were being sent and I would receive them in 10 to 14 business days. Seriously!? That's 2 - 3 weeks. Every other respectable business I have dealt with will ship parts air mail when it is their fault. Standard shipping on anything I order from Amazon is 5-8 business days. I am yet to receive my replacement parts and am at 8 business days.
Battery pack: One other minor annoyance is the new battery pack. The installation video shows a pack with a flat back and two-sided tape that you can use to stick the pack to the inside wall of the cabinet. This is another one of those minor details that has changed in recent revisions. Now 3 batteries are inserted on either side of the pack and there is no two-sided tape. In fact they provide you with no mechanism whatsoever to mount the battery pack. As I already have a power outlet with a free plug, and I hate replacing batteries, I will most likely be getting a little wall wart with a 9-volt plug (that's the connector they use to hook the batteries up to the solenoid) to use wall power directly. This does nothing to help folks who aren't in my position.
Manual operation: The electronic feature can be turned off if you like. I glanced briefly at the instructions on how to do this. It involved hooking the battery pack up to the solenoid in some configuration for some amount of time. This requires working batteries and you to climb under the sink, perform some operations, climb back out from under the sink to test. If it didn't work for whatever reason (as usually happens to me) you'll have to climb back under the sink and try again. I would much prefer to see a manually operated switch. If the batteries go dead and I'm snowed in, it'd be nice to be able to get water out of my kitchen sink.
I do want to underscore the fact that this is a really great faucet and I'm very happy with it at this point. The little bumps in the installation process could be smoothed out some, but they don't have an impact on the faucet's performance down the road, so I consider them minor. The fact that Delta obviously has some QC problems and doesn't really feel a sense of urgency to correct their mistakes bothers me. I'm sure someone else out there has gotten or will get the wrong solenoid in their kit. I hope they don't spend as long as I did trying to find the wire that isn't there.
